What venues do we work in?
Societies at KCL host events in one of these locations:
- Greenwood Theatre (55 Weston St, SE1 3RA) - This is where the majority of performances take place. With a fully accessible sound desk, lighting booth, flies, and backstage areas, most mainstage musicals are performed in this theatre. As such, this is where the majority of your knowledge should be tailored towards, and is the place where the sound department has the most control over the audio and visuals.
- Great Hall (King’s Building Ground Floor, WC2R 2LS) - This is where midterm performances, some showcases, and smaller events take place. Due to the sound desk being inaccessible to any students, the sound department can only turn mics on and off, and with lapel mics use the settings located on the pack to change anything. As such, for shows in this room, most of the job will be wiring - if there’s a band - and playing sound effects if necessary.
- Macadam 4.2 (Macadam Building 4th Floor, WC2R 2NS) - This room is rarely used, however some smaller showcases may take place here as well. Similarly to the Great Hall, the lack of a sound desk means that working shows in this venue will be entirely built around playing sound effects and backing tracks, turning mics off and on, and projecting images or slideshows.\
Since the vast majority of shows take place in the Greenwood, the following explanations will be assuming you are completing these tasks there. There will be alternate explanations for how to fulfil certain tasks in different venues when needed.
